"Oh! Another Jay Asher's book!" I said while scanning the available novels in the limited shelves of the book section in King Soopers. The Future of Us piqued my interest mainly because the author of the brilliant book Thirteen Reasons Why, is one of the duo who penned this contemporary slashed sci-fi novel along with Carolyn Mackler.

| MY OWN HARD-BOUND COPY OF THE FUTURE OF US |
Title : THE FUTURE OF US
Author : Jay Asher & Carolyn Mackler
Genre : Contemporary, Science-Fiction & Fantasy
There was no way that I could possibly reach the bookshelves of the nearest Barnes and Noble in our area last week but King Soopers transformed into a book-friendly place for me, though it's not really a bookstore. While scanning the display books and magazines in this super market, my right hand and eyes both landed in Jay Asher and Carolyn Mackler's collaboration novel, The Future of Us. Title-wise, the book can mislead the readers assuming that it's just another cheesy romance novel but don't get the wrong idea. It may accentuate the elements of young romance in some of the pages of it but the true twist of the story doesn't stop there. Actually, the title literally features what the novel is all about.
Imagine yourself living in the 90's and having the opportunity to mysteriously know what future holds for you, just by logging on a social media site that hasn't been invented yet. It gives chills but I bet you will still try it just to acquire a clear view of what your life will be 15 years from now. It's interesting and intriguing, right? That's what Josh and Emma are about to encounter in this thrilling book of The Future of Us.
THE STORY :
It's 1996, and Josh and Emma have been neighbors their whole lives. They've been best friends almost as long - at least, up until last November, when Josh did something that changed everything. Things have been weird between them ever since, but when Josh's family gets a free AOL CD in the mail, his mom makes him bring it over so that Emma can install it on her new computer. When they sign on, they're automatically logged onto their Facebook pages. But Facebook hasn't been invented yet. And they're looking at themselves fifteen years in the future.
By refreshing their pages, they learn that making different decisions now will affect the outcome of their lives later. And as they grapple with the ups and downs of what their futures hold, they're forced to confront what they're doing right - and wrong - in the present.
MY PREDICTION :
First impressions don't always last but I hope this time, it do. I don't usually write previews but I decided to make one for this novel just because I want to know if my predictions will be proven right after a day of bookwormism. The story has a promising idea and remarkable twist so I guess, there's a lot of areas the writers can expand the story. In fact, Asher is one of the authors and I know him as a swift but steady storyteller. I'll write a full-length review once I find time to finish this book. Until then!
